Goldhawk Road revisited

My second blogger meet-up! I was sorry to have missed the London one organised by House of Pinheiro earlier in the year (engineering on the rail-line, no fun trying to negotiate that, I can assure you ...). I had such a great time being part of the first V&A one, organised through the Sew Weekly network. That's where I first met Charlotte T, who was the prime mover for the meet up, with lots of us chipping in with ideas to make it a great day. I missed her as my shopping companion this time!

The first blogger meet-up

I did get to meet loads of lovely new people though.  I arrived at Goldhawk Road a bit early and did a quick scoot round to see what was on offer - spent most of my cash before the 'official' shopping began!  Wending my way back to the tube station for the meet time, I didn't see anyone at first but heard a loud chattering inside - it was amazing!  Especially for me being from a quiet area and working in a similar environment.

I needn't have worried about not having met anyone before either because several people introduced themselves and said, 'Hi!  You're 'Marguerite' aren't you (!)  I couldn't get over that ... even Wendy from Luxembourg 'knew' me - hee!  People had come from as far as Glasgow and Doncaster, so it didn't seem so strange after all to come in from East Anglia.   Claire from sewincidentally organised a perfect day - I've thanked her at her blog but I also need to here.  She put such a lot of hard work into making us feel welcome, even down to making name badges and baking biscuits!

By the way, did you know that Elvis hangs out in Goldhawk Road these days ...

Uh huh, having a great time here amongst all these lovely ladies!
Everyone wore beautifully made dresses which were perfect for the sunny Saturday.

I wish I'd remembered to take my shopping trolley!

I didn't get any photos of the shopping going on, so I've borrowed this one from So Ha of unlabelledclothes.

Hope that's ok, it was great to meet and chat SoHa and talk about the demise(?) of Sew Weekly and all the fabrics on offer in Goldhawk Road.  Look forward to seeing what you make with your silk.

More inspection of finds ...

I'll tell you more about my purchases in the next post.  I went a bit mad - there were lots of prints on offer and I was spoiled for choice ...

Lunch was at the Liz Cafe, a newly opened Italian place at 7 Goldhawk  Road.  They were super organised there and accommodated all our requests.

My lunch

A happy me - fed and watered!

They even let us do our 'Swapathon' - there was tons of stuff, being that there were over 30 of us ... and it was all so civilized!

All swap stuff - just some of the table full!

Sadly, I had to leave early for the journey home, so I couldn't shop on Shepherds Bush Market.

My souvenir of a fab day out, a bit battered now but well loved!  Looking forward to the next one ...

  4. It was lovely to meet you and such a shame you couldn't stay for the afternoon shopping. I hope you don't mind, but I've stolen the picture of yourself having been fed and watered, as I am in the background trying on Rachel of My Messings' Miette cardigan - I hope that's OK! Looking forward to seeing you next time :)

I noticed the Elvis Presley .. The town where he was born and raised as a kid, is about 45 minutes from me [it is the town where I fabric shop at].. The old house where he was born, is now a museum, and many people travel each year around this time , to see it. Amazing..]
